Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. She was made as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. The reporting she did included plenty of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with President Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
